About Golden Gate Park Golf
There aren't many places in the world where you can play golf inside a 1,000-acre urban park a mile from the Pacific Ocean for under $25. Golden Gate Park Golf Course is a 9-hole, all-par-3 layout at the western end of the park, just off 47th Avenue near the bison paddock and the Dutch Windmill. It's short — nine holes, all par 3s, just over 1,300 yards total — but that's exactly the point. This course was built for accessibility, and it delivers on that in a setting that no driving range or simulator can replicate.
The course went through a full renovation and reopened in 2024, one of several improvements the SF Recreation and Parks Department made across its municipal golf portfolio. New irrigation, refreshed turf, updated infrastructure — it's in the best shape it's been in years. The holes themselves are straightforward, mostly flat, and forgiving enough that a first-timer can get around without losing a dozen balls. But there's enough tree cover and wind off the park to keep it interesting for players who've been at it for years.
It's the right course for a junior just getting started, a beginner who wants real grass under their feet instead of a mat, or anyone who wants to squeeze in nine holes on a Tuesday evening without making a production of it. Bring your own clubs or rent at the small facility. Cash and card both work. Don't overthink it — just go play.
