Shadow Lakes Club

Shadow Lakes Club is a public daily-fee golf course in Brentwood, set across rolling, oak-dappled hills at the foot of Mount Diablo in the far East Bay. Originally designed by Gary Roger Baird as a par-71 stretching to about 6,710 yards, the course closed for a period and was rehabilitated and reopened in 2021 under JC Golf, now playing with four sets of tees so you can take on nine or a full eighteen with a different look each time.

The layout is known for dramatic elevation change, native grasses outlining the holes, natural boulder outcroppings and sharply sculpted bunkers. Memorable moments include a first hole carved through native grasses, the uphill par-5 sixth with water down the right, the roughly 100-foot drop on the par-3 seventh, and a demanding stretch through holes 11 to 13. Bentgrass tees and greens are hand-mown, with rye and Kentucky bluegrass fairways.

Beyond the course there is a driving range with more than 25 tees and a practice green, and the clubhouse has been renovated into a first-class event center for weddings, banquets and tournaments, with views over the 9th green. An optional IN-Club membership adds discounted rates and advance booking for regulars.

Green fees vary by day and time — IN-Club members have seen weekday rates around $39, with higher public and weekend pricing — and tee times can be booked online (and through GolfNow) up to 14 days in advance. It is an easy drive from Brentwood, Antioch and Oakley.
