About Castlewood Country Club
Castlewood Country Club sits in the Pleasanton hills on land that has been home to a private club since the early 20th century — the original Castlewood resort opened in 1917 and became one of the social anchors of the East Bay for decades before transitioning into the country club format it operates under today. The 27-hole golf setup gives members something most private clubs can't offer: genuine variety in their daily round. Three 9-hole loops — each with its own character — can be combined in different configurations, which means regular players rarely feel like they're running the same track twice.
The terrain through the Tri-Valley hills gives the course natural movement that flat-land designs have to manufacture artificially. The fairways roll, the greens sit at angles dictated by the hillside, and the elevation changes produce approach shots that look straightforward on a yardage book but play differently in the field. The conditioning is what members consistently point to — tight fairways, consistent greens, and bunker sand that holds its shape. The broader club package includes tennis, swimming, and dining, which makes Castlewood function as a genuine family club rather than a golf-only destination.
Castlewood is private and accessible by membership only. The Pleasanton location is convenient for members coming from throughout the East Bay, South Bay, and Tri-Valley corridor. Contact the club directly for current membership availability.
