San Jose Municipal Golf Course

San Jose Municipal Golf Course opened in 1968 and has been a home course for South Bay golfers ever since. The par-72 layout at 1560 Oakland Road plays 6,700 yards on flat terrain — one of the most walkable full-length courses in Silicon Valley — and sits at the convergence of Highways 101, 880, and 280, making it accessible from virtually every corner of the South Bay without navigating residential neighborhoods or difficult surface roads. For over 50 years it has served as the everyday muni for thousands of local golfers who value a straight-forward 18 holes at a fair price.

The course plays as a par 72 with open fairways and a layout that doesn't manufacture difficulty through forced carries or punitive rough. The rating of 71.5 and slope of 121 reflect a course that plays honest — harder than it looks from the scorecard when conditions are firm and the greens are running, but approachable enough for a wide range of abilities on any given morning. All 18 greens were fully renovated in 2010, which remains the most significant investment the course has received, and the new tee boxes added in subsequent years extended the championship yardage for players who want a longer test. The practice facility includes a driving range, chipping area, and putting green.

San Jose Municipal hosts a Summer Music Series on Thursday evenings during the summer months — live music, drink specials, and a patio atmosphere that brings the course to life as a social venue beyond just golf.
