Silicon Valley Golf: Better Than You Think
The South Bay is often overlooked as a golf destination β but it shouldn't be. Cinnabar Hills Golf Club in south San Jose offers three nine-hole combinations across stunning rolling terrain, and is consistently rated among the top 10 public facilities in Northern California. Shoreline Golf Links in Mountain View sits adjacent to the bay with beautiful water views. Santa Teresa in the foothills offers parkland golf at its most relaxed.
The hotel infrastructure in the South Bay is world-class β Silicon Valley hosts millions of business travelers annually, which means excellent hotels at every price point, with rates that can be surprisingly competitive on weekends when business demand drops. It's also the most accessible region in this guide, with San Jose International Airport (SJC) offering direct flights from most major US cities.
The grande dame of San Jose hotels β the Fairmont is a beautiful, full-service luxury hotel in the heart of downtown San Jose. The rooms are spacious, the service is polished, and the location puts you within easy reach of all South Bay courses. Cinnabar Hills is about 15 minutes south. Shoreline in Mountain View is 20 minutes north. Weekend rates at the Fairmont can be surprisingly reasonable when business demand drops.
Sunnyvale sits at the geographic center of Silicon Valley β equidistant from most South Bay courses and a short drive from Shoreline Golf Links. The Aloft is a well-designed modern hotel with good amenities at very competitive prices, especially on weekends. The surrounding area has excellent dining options from casual to upscale, and easy freeway access to all South Bay courses.
For golfers specifically targeting Cinnabar Hills, staying in South San Jose or Morgan Hill puts you within 5β10 minutes of the course. Several comfortable mid-range hotels (Holiday Inn, Hilton Garden Inn) in these areas offer excellent value and convenience. Morgan Hill itself is a pleasant small city with good restaurants and a relaxed pace compared to the busy tech corridors to the north.

Local Tips
Cinnabar Hills is the must-play South Bay course. Three nine-hole combinations β Canyon, Lake, and Mountain β across 27 holes of beautiful rolling terrain. The views from the Mountain nine are spectacular. Book online well in advance for weekends.
Weekend hotel rates in Silicon Valley drop significantly. Business travelers fill hotels MondayβThursday, which means weekend rates at quality hotels can be 30β50% cheaper than midweek. If you have flexibility, a SaturdayβSunday golf trip is excellent value.
Fly into SJC, not SFO. San Jose International Airport (SJC) is much smaller, easier to navigate, and closer to all South Bay courses than SFO. If you're specifically visiting South Bay courses, SJC saves time and frustration.
